xAI's Grok Gets Wilder as Safety Team Heads for the Exit

So here's something that caught my attention today. A former xAI employee just dropped some pretty wild claims about what's happening behind the scenes with Grok, the company's AI chatbot. According to them, Elon Musk is personally pushing to make the bot "more unhinged." Yeah, you read that right.

Now, I've been testing Grok myself since it launched, and honestly? It's already pretty loose compared to ChatGPT or Claude. The thing will roast you, crack inappropriate jokes, and generally act like that friend who has zero filter. But apparently that's not enough for Musk. The former employee, who worked on safety protocols, says the CEO is actively working to remove more guardrails.

What really gets me is the timing here. We're in February 2026, and every other AI company seems to be tightening safety measures after some high-profile incidents last year. Microsoft just announced stricter controls for Copilot. Google's putting more resources into Gemini's safety team. Meanwhile, xAI is going the opposite direction?

The source also mentioned that several safety team members have quietly left in recent months. That's... not great. Look, I get that Musk wants to differentiate Grok from the competition. Making it edgier and more freewheeling definitely sets it apart. But when your safety people are jumping ship, maybe it's time to ask some hard questions.

I reached out to xAI for comment but haven't heard back yet. Given Musk's track record with these things, I'm guessing we'll get a spicy tweet about it before any official statement. In the meantime, if you're using Grok, just remember - it might get even wilder in the coming months.
