Threads Finally Lets You Train Your Feed Like a Pet

Remember when we all complained about social media feeds showing us random stuff we didn't care about? Well, Threads just rolled out something that might actually fix that problem. They're calling it "Dear Algo," and honestly, it's about time someone let us talk directly to the algorithm.

Here's how it works: You basically write a note to Threads' algorithm telling it what you want to see more or less of. Want more cat videos and fewer political rants? Just tell it. Sick of seeing your ex's new relationship updates? You can fix that too. The feature lets you temporarily adjust your feed preferences without unfollowing anyone or messing with your permanent settings.

I've been testing this for a few days now, and the difference is pretty noticeable. I told it I wanted more tech news and fewer celebrity posts, and within hours my feed actually reflected that. The temporary part is key here - you're not locked into these preferences forever. Think of it like putting your feed on a specific diet for a while.

What strikes me most is how straightforward this is. No complicated menus or hidden settings. You literally just type what you want, like texting a friend. Meta seems to have figured out that maybe, just maybe, users know what they want to see better than an algorithm guessing based on our random 3am scrolling habits.

Sure, it's not perfect. Sometimes the algorithm still throws in weird stuff. But compared to the old days of refreshing your feed hoping for something interesting? This feels like actual progress. Now if only Instagram and Facebook would steal this feature too.
