Marissa Mayer's Back With Dazzle and $8M in Fresh Funding

Remember Marissa Mayer? The former Yahoo CEO who tried to save the internet giant? Well, she's making moves again, and this time she's got $8 million to play with. Her new startup Dazzle just landed funding from Forerunner Ventures, with Kirsten Green personally leading the round.

Here's what caught my attention - Mayer basically shut down her previous venture Sunshine (which was all about photo and contact management) and immediately pivoted to... something else. The thing is, nobody really knows what Dazzle does yet. But when someone like Kirsten Green writes a check, you know there's something interesting cooking. Green's the same investor who backed Warby Parker and Dollar Shave Club before they became household names.

The timing feels deliberate. We're seeing this wave of consumer AI tools that actually work - not just chatbots, but apps that genuinely make life easier. Think about how Perplexity changed search or how Midjourney made everyone an artist. My guess? Dazzle is building something in that sweet spot where AI meets everyday consumer needs.

What strikes me most is Mayer's ability to bounce back. Sunshine never really took off, but instead of dwelling on it, she's already onto the next thing. And with AI being the hot ticket in 2025, she's positioned herself right where the action is. The fact that she's staying quiet about the product details? That's classic Silicon Valley - build the hype before the reveal.

Eight million isn't massive by tech standards, but it's enough to build something real. And with Mayer's track record at Google (where she was employee number 20) and her connections, she won't have trouble raising more if Dazzle gains traction.
