DHS Turns to Google and Adobe AI for Government Video Content

So the Department of Homeland Security is now using AI to make videos. Not exactly the headline I expected to read this morning, but here we are.

According to newly released documents, DHS has been tapping into Google and Adobe's AI video generators to create and edit content they share with the public. This revelation comes at a pretty interesting time - immigration agencies have been pumping out social media content lately to support the current administration's deportation policies, and some of that content definitely has that AI-generated look to it.

I've noticed government agencies getting more experimental with their tech lately, but this feels different. When I first started tracking AI tools, they were mostly toys for creators and marketers. Now we're seeing federal agencies use them for official communications. That's a pretty big shift.

What strikes me about this whole situation is the lack of transparency. These videos are being shared without any clear disclosure that AI was involved in making them. And honestly, that bothers me. When you're a government agency communicating policy to citizens, shouldn't there be some obligation to tell people if your content was generated by AI?

The timing here is fascinating too. We're in January 2026, and AI video generation has gotten scary good compared to just two years ago. But good enough for government use? That's the question nobody seems to be asking. I've tested both Google's and Adobe's latest video AI tools, and while they're impressive, they still have that uncanny valley quality sometimes. Makes you wonder what other agencies might be experimenting with this tech behind closed doors.
